Choreographic Classes
SalsaOlé School Team

Are you interested in performing?
Do you want to improve your skills in salsa and develop your talents? Are you searching for new challenges and experiences?
This class is for all salseros with some experience who are interested in doing shows!
More precisely:
- SalsaOlé School Level 5 students
- SalsaOlé School Level 3 & 4 students with teacher approval
- Any and all salseros with SalsaOlé approval

Unlike our Amateur Dance Team (or Amateur Team), there is no audition and requirement that you need to meet before joining the School Team.

Ideally, there should be the same number of ladies and men. In the case where there is disparity, preference in partnering will be given by order of registration.  For example if there are more ladies than gentlemen, the ladies who registered first will be given preference.  If you have no partner, you can still follow the classes as a substitute.  That said, SalsaOlé will do everything we can to ensure an equal number of ladies and men.

SalsaOlé will defend the honor of the National Capital region at the Quebec Salsa Festival competition!

SalsaOlé is pleased to be representing the National Capital region at The Second Annual Quebec Salsa Festival from September 25th to 27th.

On top of performances by Carolina & Luc, the Semi-Pro Dance Team and the Amateur Dance Team, SalsaOlé will defend the honor of the region at the festival competition with two couples in the Pro-Am division.

As the name suggests the Pro-Am division consists of a couple formed by a professional and an amateur; in essence a student-teacher format. To that end, Carolina will be dancing with Chris and Luc with Julie-Anne.

As part of our competition preparation - and for your entertainment! - SalsaOlé will be performing these Pro-Am routines this Friday at Rahim's Latin Friday and also this Saturday at Club Caliente.

A Spectacular Spring for SalsaOlé!

Since last March, SalsaOlé has built a solid reputation, dancing alongside numerous international dancers.

The SalsaOlé Semi-Pro Team – Carolina, Luc, Julie-Anne and Chris – started the season by charming Toronto at the opening night of the Winter Salsa Carnival. This is what Caryl Cuizon, co-founder of iFreeStyle.ca Dance Company of Toronto, had to say about SalsaOlé’s performance: “It's wonderful to see more Canadian cities represented at national and international salsa events. Performances by dance companies like SalsaOlé have helped put Ottawa on the salsa map!”. Let’s not forget the comment posted on SalsaTo.ca website: “The IronMan award must go to SalsaOlé who closed out the performances. Their dancing was fiery, just like their costumes! These two intrepid couples drove in from Ottawa, danced, performed, danced some more and then drove back. Oh yes, Ottawa is about 5 hours - one way”.

The team also performed at the 5th edition of the Montreal Salsa Convention in April. After watching them at the rehearsal, Gil Sanchez, one of the organizers of the event comented: “You guys totally deserved to be here!”.

Echoes of these successes were heard by the organizer of the Ottawa Salsa Madness, The Canadian Salsa Festival, Mr. Carlo Bernard: “I heard lots and lots of compliments about SalsaOlé. A lot of the schools from Montreal and Toronto have approached me and expressed their happiness in seeing Ottawa on stage dancing at the level of other cities”. Mr. Bernard also invited SalsaOlé to represent Ottawa in various events and to help him promote his festival.

The SalsaOlé Semi-Pro Team will continue its summer shows at the 1st edition of the Ottawa Salsa Madness, The Canadian Salsa Festival, from July 23rd to 26th, at the 1st edition of the International Summer Salsa Festival
Laval, from August 5th to 9th, and finally at the 2nd edition of the Quebec Salsa Festival, from September 25th to 27th, 2009. Please note that the SalsaOlé Amateur Troupe will also be part of these three important events. Other shows will be added to SalsaOlé’s busy schedule, check out our Agenda to know what is coming up!

SalsaOlé’s Second Anniversary –
An Unforgetable Evening!

On March 21, SalsaOlé celebrated its second anniversary at the Salaberry Armoury in Gatineau. Over 150 people were present at this event filled with music, fun, and laughter.

Our guests of honour were Chilital’s Roberto Arenas Jr. and Marie-Josée Strazzero (2nd place World Salsa Championships 2007), who kicked off the celebration with an intermediate/advanced salsa workshop that delighted the salseros and salseras in attendance. The highlight of the evening was the incredible performances by 15 year old Samantha Scali, Roberto and the rest of the Chilital dance team! Trevor Poon also walked away with a full pass for the 1st edition of the International Summer Salsa Festival Laval to be held from the 5th to the 9th of August in Laval.

Thank you for showing up in great numbers and thank you to those who helped making this evening a success! Do not miss our next party on July 4th!
March 10th, 2009 SalsaOlé at the Toronto Winter Salsa Carnival and the 5th edition of the Montreal Salsa Convention

We will be kicking things off on March 12 in Toronto by performing our latest routine on the opening night of the Toronto Winter Salsa Carnival at Acrobat Lounge.

Shifting back to Ottawa, we will be helping to celebrate the 13th anniversary of Ottawa's longest running Latin club, Club Caliente, on Sunday the 15th of March.

Last but definitely not least we have been invited to perform at the 5th edition of the Montreal Salsa Convention in mid April.

Stay tuned for more shows to be confirmed in the weeks to come!

We look forward to seeing you! Come share our passion!

December 10th, 2008 Two SalsaOlé dance teams in 2009:
SEMI-PRO and AM

Along with the school component, SalsaOlé is very involved with its show component, and we are actually going forward with new choreography projects by offering training and development opportunities to all our dance team members.

In addition to Carolina and Luc's shows, SalsaOlé now has two dance teams: the “Semi Pro” dance team, which has been training since last September, and the new “Amateur” team, which will be starting in January 2009.

Choreography classes will allow the training of well-rounded dancers, with emphasis on technique, styling, musicality, body awareness, expression, discovery of new movements, etc.

Anyone interested in performing, and who would like to join us in the near future is welcomed to contact us.

Make sure you don’t miss our new shows!

This summer, SalsaOlé will be training with Montreal’s Chilital.

Always looking for new challenges, Carolina and Luc will be training with Marie-Josée Strazzero and Roberto Arenas Jr., of Montreal’s Chilital Latin Dance Company. Their goal is to expand their knowledge of salsa and broaden their horizons.

Marie-Josée Strazzero and Roberto Arenas Jr. have won several competitions and perform all over the world. This couple of international renown were the runner-up in the On1 Division at the prestigious World Salsa Championship in December 2007, where they competed against the best salsa dancers in the world.
